Day 8 - Utah Hwy 12 to Capital Reef Utah
In his peyote induced vision of the Grand Canyon three days before,
Billy-Bob had realised that he and Cletis had their strongest genetic
connection with the
Clovis peoples, predecessors to the Anasazi. This connection was
from a time before the Anasazi turned to agriculture in the fertile desert
valleys and oasis fed by natural springs and rivers running to nowhere in
the middle of the Great Basin.
In his vision, Billy-Bob saw the turth and knew that he and Cletis were
destined to return to being hunter-gatherers of the Basin.
In the evenings following the vision, campfire discussions were of the
nature
"Ya, know Cletis..."
"Yup, yer right Billy Bob. We need to get out
there and kill us somethin".
Early attempts at "killin somethin" netted knot. Finally, on the third day,
having observed ravens, crows and magpies feasting in the middle of the
road, Billy-Bob's vision transmuted into
"maybe we were just meant to be 'gatherers'"
"Yup, yer right Billy-bob. We need to get out there and
gather us somethin".
And so they did.
